Despite the slight rain and overcast skies, our inaugural ride for 2013 was a success! We gathered at Brookside Park (where we’ll be meeting for every ride to come this year) and took shelter in one of the park’s gazebos while waiting for everyone to arrive. The kids in the group (ranging from 19 months to 8 years old) ran around and explored the play ground while we waited. Bikes were swapped for test rides while other chatted and made new friends. Once everyone arrived – including our special guest participants from Chicago! – we took off for a ride through Brookside’s residential neighborhood, looping through Roosevelt’s school grounds and by the playground we’ll be sad to see go, and finally through downtown’s Historic Neighborhood and unto Main Street.
Once downtown, we decided via an impromptu call through the crowd to pull over for hot chocolates at Cafe Diem.
After the hot chocolate stop, some riders moved on to the Eco Fair at City Hall while others departed for home. Our Chicago guests remained on Main to explore the downtown shops while those of us with kids under two rushed home for naptime.
Our March ride included lots of trailers, TWO gorgeous Yuba Mundo family bikes, and two 8 year old solo riders, one of which rode an awesome adaptive bike. We had a great time and look forward to the April ride already! Hope to see lots of you there!
