Who We Are

Ames Kidical Mass is a community non-profit run entirely by volunteers. We are passionate about bringing bicycling to Ames families and children. We love to get around by bike and we want to inspire more Ames-area families to do the same.

Sandra:

“I was inspired to bike more after spending a year in Germany as a graduate student and seeing how wonderful it is to live in a bike-friendly city. I then learned about Kidical Mass rides across various US cities and decided to create something like it in Ames. I love riding with my two kids and my favorite bike is a vintage 1970s Peugeot Mixte that was a lucky Craigslist find.”

Torey:

“I’m a scientist, dad, and avid commuter cyclist. My preferred speed is fast but I gladly slow down to bike with my kids and to get them excited about riding around town. I’ve been involved with Ames Kidical Mass since the very first ride and love finding new routes and destinations for us to explore.”

“I’m a 65 yr old semi -retired RN, mother and grandmother. I’ve lived and worked all over the world.  I haven’t owned a car for almost 8 yrs.  I use a bike primarily for commuting – all year. (-30 F I take the bus!!) When I travel I rent a bike. I’m a new member of the Ames Bicycle Coalition.  My goal is to encourage others (especially kids) to get excited about cycling as a means of transportation. My grandsons-ages 2, 5 and 7 all love to ride bikes with Oma!”
